We at The Sensory Stylist understand that many children with sensory sensitivities may strongly dislike having their hair brushed. Our approach emphasizes patience and gradual progress, helping children become more comfortable with a gentle brushing routine while carefully working through tangles over time. Incorporating water during the detangling process is often helpful in easing the removal of knots. However, when tangles become severely matted or begin to form dreadlocks, the hair may no longer be fully salvageable. In these situations, removing the matted section of hair may be necessary. Serious cases may require several sessions booked closely together.

Incorporating water during the detangling process is often helpful in easing the removal of knots. Sensory friendly haircuts for children can be routine or they can require more time. Very often, noticeable results may take some time to develop in the first phases of the haircut process. After a routine has been established and trust is gained, the process generally becomes more efficient and comfortable over time. Consistency is key in these cases. Shout this woman’s business from the rooftops, she is an angel!!! Our 4 year old son has autism and could barely handle being touched on the head. A few barber shops asked us to leave due to him crying and being dysregulated and we honestly felt like there wasn’t a space left for us. Kristin came along and changed everything. She is calm, caring, patient and just “gets it.” Kristin knew how to handle his big emotions and managed to give an amazing haircut, despite the chaos. After just 4 visits our son successfully got a haircut with NO CRYING. I didn’t even have to assist or intervene. I never thought this would happen for our family. I don’t know what we’d do without her.
