We at The Sensory Stylist understand that many children with sensory sensitivities may strongly dislike having their hair brushed. Our approach emphasizes patience and gradual progress, helping children become more comfortable with a gentle brushing routine while carefully working through tangles over time. Incorporating water during the detangling process is often helpful in easing the removal of knots. However, when tangles become severely matted or begin to form dreadlocks, the hair may no longer be fully salvageable. In these situations, removing the matted section of hair may be necessary. Serious cases may require several sessions booked closely together.
(In cases of severe matting or dreadlock formation, detangling may no longer be possible.)

After a routine has been established and trust is gained, the process generally becomes more efficient and comfortable over time. Consistency is key in these cases. Kristin is a life saver! We have a 2 1/2 year old son who has sensory issues and loses his mind when his hair is cut. We have had terrible results every place we have taken him to get a haircut because they are afraid to cut him with all his thrashing around. His hair has looked terrible for over a year. We even tried cutting some of it ourselves and just made it worse. Someone suggested we call Kristin and I did. She got back to me right away and she scheduled us very fast. She came to our home. She was on time. She brought everything she needed. She was patient and guided us on how to assist her. Our son started out screaming and thrashing, but by the end he was a lot calmer. Kristin was so patient and kind. His haircut came out AMAZING! My wife and I kept taking pictures of it all day and sharing it with people. We kept commenting on how he looks unrecognizable. It is by far the best haircut he has ever had! If you are looking for a haircut for a child with sensory issues, book Kristin. You will not be disappointed!

Kristin is amazing!!!! I work with adults who have intellectual and or developmental disabilities. One woman I support is sensory seeking and we thought she would love a pedicure. After calling around different local nail salons, we found that they weren't accessible for her as she utilizes a wheelchair. After some searching we found Kristin. She came out to the woman's home and provided the full pedicure experience. And now we are on a set schedule of every 3 months, where the woman I support can count on Kristin bringing her a amazing salon experience from the comfort of home. She is patient, kind, friendly, and amazing at what she does. So happy we found Kristin!! 💓
